Building Your Business House

Today I want to compare the building of your business—particularly your MLM or network marketing business—with the building of your dream house. In the process, I will show you something that the pros out there don’t share with you.

I want you to see your dream house in your mind and that you are starting to build it, and that at this moment you only have enough money to build one apartment with just a bathroom as an extra room. This is the point where you start your business, and you only have the money to pay for it with any products or supplies that automatically come with it. The only extras that do not cost money are all your dreams that you have put on your dream list.

Today there are a lot of tools—systems and ROM’s (reach out methods)—that can help you build your business online or offline. Some of them will not cost you anything except time, and others will cost you both time and money.

Let us fist assume you have only money to start your business like the two-room apartment I mentioned, so you need to use the free way and your time.

In the days before the internet, there were only two tools that you could use, and they were to talk to people face to face or contact them by telephone; and the idea of building your business internationally was almost out of the question, especially if you didn’t know people in other countries. Today, with the internet and social media like Facebook, you sit with an extra tool you can you use for free, and now you can build your business internationally without having to talk to people face to face. We also sit now with things like Skype, which allows us to call people all over the world, and just by doing that you can start to build your next room of your business house. That is where I started a year ago online, and I can tell any person that it can be done with no extra tools except those that are available at no cost.

Let us assume that you did make enough money now to afford an extra tool or two to use for your business, so now we can look at some tools that you can use to help build a little larger dream business house.

To begin, there are many systems online that can help you to brand yourself and your business without being in a person’s face with your business, and today online we know this as attraction marketing. For those who are new to online marketing and are ready to afford one of these, I will mention some of the systems you can use for your business, including the one I personally use.

There are numerous systems on the market that you can look at, such as MLSP (My Lead System Pro), CCP (Carbon Copy Pro), Renegade University, Mentoring for Free, and so on. My personal choice is SponsorDaddy, which is a complete online marketing and management system that can be used by any home-based entrepreneur from beginner to seasoned network marketer. Now that you have laid your foundation and your vision of your dream home is well underway, the next tool that you might consider is purchasing an auto-dialer as a way of contacting your many qualified leads. In partnership with online marketing guru Joe Syverson ( To hear how Joe use the dialer just click on his name), Naxum has just launched a powerful auto-dialer system for its SponsorDaddy customers. This tool blew me away when I looked at the tutorial that came with my 15-day free trial. If you like what you see and you can afford the monthly payments you can add it to your arsenal of tools. If you like it but can’t afford the extra cost right now, you can become a affiliate and show it to your friends and start to make extra money until you can afford it.

Video mail is another tool that is relatively new on the market and can help you build your dream business house even faster, once you’re at the point where you are comfortable with the additional cost. Most of the video mail packages come with a variety of templates to use that help make you look like a real pro when contacting your prospective customers and associates. And today we all know that video mailing is become more and more popular. And like the auto-dialer, many of these programs come with an affiliate program that can help make this additional tool self-funding or even an additional income stream without taking any focus away from your primary business.

Now with all the above mention tools you can build your business dream house as big and as fast as you want, but if you are still at the point where you need to use just free tools and time, don’t feel bad, because this is what most of the pros do not bother to tell you. At one time, they were also at the point where they could only afford to use the free tools. The only deference between you and the seasoned pro is that he took the time and made the effort to earn the money to buy himself the extra tools he needed to build his dream business house faster and more effectively. You can, too!

With this said, there is no need for you to feel bad if you can’t afford all the tools that the pros want you to buy, because you will also arrive at the point that you can use all the tools that they use if you just stay persistent and consistent with whatever reach out method you use, either online or offline, until you reach the point where you can buy all the tools you need to build your business dream house as big as you want to.

The Business of Trees and Flowers

Today my question to you is, “In what business are you?” Are you in the flower business or in the tree business? For this example I want to
use the Bamboo tree and a poppy flower.

Now if we take a poppy, we will say it is a very beautiful flower, and
I will agree with you that it will make a lady’s heart sing if you give
her a bundle of them. The poppy is also classified as I wildflower so
it does not need work from your part to make it grow.

I have seen a lot of people in my years of network marketing that like to
treat their business like a wildflower. They join a company and see
all the money they can make and even all the good products you can get
from the company, but that is where a lot of people stop.

If it is a company with a forced matrix where you only need to talk to three
people and that you will get spillovers from your uplines, some
people think they will only talk to three people, and in a month or two
their matrix will be full and that they will live like kings for the
rest of their lives. They treat their business like a poppy flower.

A poppy flower does not need attention in order to grow, and it does not
take five years to grow. It takes a week or two, and then pretty soon it dies to make new seeds for the next poppy to grow.

Is a poppy flower sustainable in its physical form? To be honest, not
really. You can use it in a bouquet for a lady or on a table, but it dies
very soon if you do not look after it, and after it dies you can’t use
it any more.

Let’s look at the Chinese Bamboo tree and see why I personally treat my
business like a Bamboo tree.

I believe a lot of you know the classic life story of a Chinese Bamboo tree,
but let me give it again for those who do not really know how the life
of a Chinese bamboo tree looks like.

“You take a little seed, plant it, water it, and fertilize it for a
whole year, and nothing happens.

The second year you water it and fertilize it, and nothing happens.

The third year you water it and fertilize it, and nothing happens.

How discouraging this becomes!

The fourth year you water it and fertilize it, and nothing happens.

This is very frustrating.

The fifth year you continue to water and fertilize the seed and
then…take note. Sometime during the fifth year. The Chinese bamboo
tree spouts and grows NINETY FEET IN SIX WEEKS!

Your business and life are very similar to the growing process of the
Chinese Bamboo tree.

It is often discouraging.

You seemingly do things right by talking to people every week
consistently, and some people do join and some don’t join your
business, and nothing happens.

But for those who do things right and are not discouraged and are
persistent, things will happen.

Finally we begin to receive the rewards.

So today I want to give you hope and say treat your business like a
Chinese Bamboo tree and you will be able to sustain it far better
than a poppy flower. If might not look as beautiful as the poppy
flower when it is fully grown, but you will be able the do a lot
more things with it, like building beautiful houses, making beautiful
artistic things, and a lot of other thing that will hold for years, long
after the poppy flower past away.

Answers for Dumb Questions

Do you ever get asked any of these questions: “How many people are there in your business?” or “How many people have you sponsored?” or the worst one of all, “How much money do you make?”

These are the wrong questions to ask any person in business or anyone who presents you with an opportunity. Let me turn these questions around and ask, “How hard are you willing to work?”

If you tell somebody you have only sponsored one person to date or you only sponsor about one person per month, he might think, “This is not a business for me,” or “This is really hard work if you only get one person per month!”

If you say to the same person that you sponsor ten people every month and your team is 300 or 3000 people strong, he might think, “Wow! This is good!” and he joins your business, and after a month or two when he hasn’t sponsored anybody, he quits and moves on to the next opportunity in line, and the same thing happens all over again.

My question is, is it really about the number of people I sponsor, or how big my business is, or how much money I make? Because I can sponsored two people and my team can grew with a hundred people almost overnight, or I had to sponsor twenty or even fifty people before I sponsored a diamond who made my business grow with two hundred people in less than two or three months?

No, and No again! These are the wrong questions to ask. The question I want to ask a person is, “How hard are you willing to work?”

In the business world it is all about YOU, and not about the person who presents an opportunity to you or about your new boss. I have never heard of a person who asked his new boss, “How much money do you have in the bank” or “How much money do you make per month, and if you tell me I will decide if I want to work for you.”

Now why on earth do some people ask those same dumb questions to network marketers? Don’t they know they actually have the potential of making more money than you?

If you are one of those people who always ask that question, I want to explain to you something. It is not about me or my bank account. It is all about YOU! Are you willing to work as hard as you can for the next five years? Are you willing to do what it takes? Will you go the extra mile for your team? And then the last question: Are you willing to keep on keeping on when the going gets tough in order to live out your dreams that most people only dream about.

If you can answer YES to all of the above questions, then I will say to you, you will make a success with your business, no matter how big or how small your upline’s business is.

Personally I think people forget that any top earner in any MLM company started off with zero people in his business, and he built his own team. There is no difference between you and the top earner in your company, except that he was willing to do what it takes. Nobody ever said it is easy to build a good, solid business. It takes hard work and dedication from your side that will pay off in the end — not before.

This may not stop people from continuing to ask these dumb questions, but hopefully you now have a good answer for them when they do.

Endurance — You and your Business

Last Sunday was the Comrades Marathon in South Africa. For those who are not into running or sport and don’t know what the Comrades is, it is one of the biggest and hardest one day endurance road running races in the world. The runners have twelve hours to complete 89 km (55.6 miles).

My philosophy in life is that if you never play the game, don’t try to dish out the rules; or if you are not the teacher, sit down and listen. Well today I want to compare the Comrades with your running your business. Why do I want to do it? Because I can. I have run the Comrades twice, and I know what it takes to complete the race. If you want to see the proof, then make sure to watch my sideshow at the end.

Do you see your business like a 100m sprint, or do you see that it is much more like running the Comrades? Why do I ask this question? Because so many people—especially those who are newbies in network marketing—think it is just a 6 to 12 month race, at the end of which you will sit with all the money in the world. I have some bad news for people who think like that. No, my friend, a truly successful MLM or network marketing business is based on a two- to three-year plan of hard work. Take note: I did not mention the word “easy”, because just as the Comrades is not an easy race even for the winner, the same holds true for you MLM business.

It takes two years to prepare for the Comrades in order to run the race without big problems, because problems are not excluded in the race. In the comrades there are two big cut-off times that will determine if you will go home with a medal. The first cut-off is at the half-way point when the gun goes off, and then after 12 hours at the finish line. If you have not reached either of these points by the specified time, then your race is over.

What does all of this have to do with your business? Because how many people quit before they are even half way or just 3 months in business? I think we sometimes fail to tell people that they need to work hard before they will start seeing income and bonuses on any kind of consistent basis. Too many people think that if the business does not sustain itself in the first, second or third month, it is not a good business, and they go off to try something new.

One of the other things that helps one complete the Comrades is the camaraderie between the runners, as well as all the supporters along the route between Pietermaritzburg and Durban. The same is true with support and help from your upline, downline and cross-line team members in your particular company.

If you are running the up run from Durban to Pietermaritzburg, there is one BIG obstacle just before the end called the “Polly Shorts” — a hill of approximately 5 km. When you are half-way, the hill flattens out for about 50m, just to go up again. Believe me, after plus or minus 80 km and a lot of steep hills, it is not fun anymore to get a hill like that just before the end! Now, with your network marketing or other business, it is exactly the same. Just when the going gets tough is exactly when you need to get going. Most uplines don’t bother to tell you that you will get a lot more “no’s” than “yes’s” on your way to the top, but believe me, if you can endure all of the no’s, your race will become like the Comrades after the “Polly Shorts”, because after Polly’s, the end is in sight!

I always say the Comrades is 80% mind race, and the rest is very good exercise. The same in business. Why do you think every leader teaches you about personal development? Because they know it is a mental game that you must overcome. If you are not mentally strong you will give up when the third or fourth person says no to your opportunity, and you will feel offended about it. Much better to say to yourself, “some will, some won’t, so what, next!” There is a point of time in the Comrade where you run with your mind and your legs feel as if they are cut off from your upper body. They just go on and on, on their own, while your mind sits already at the end anxiously waiting for your legs to finish the race.

Then, all of a sudden, you get something that you can’t describe to anyone, even if you try your best to do it; and that is that feeling when you finally cross the finish line. Ask any person that does long distance and endurance sports. Your tears don’t ask questions. They just flow out of pure joy. Everyone who has ever completed the Comrades is a winner, no matter if they ran the race in 5 hours 25minutes or in 12 hours, because they have done something that most people will never do. Critics (even your friends and family – and sometimes especially your friends and family) will try to pull you down and say only mad people do such a crazy thing. The same with your business opportunity. If you just keep on keeping on till the end and the day comes that you can walk across the stage to receive that top earner award and tell your story, you will be a winner in everybody’s eyes, no matter how long it took you!

Why Dreams ?

Dreams Dreams Dreams … but why do we need dreams ?

Every motivational speaker you listen to speaks about dreams at some point.

I want to ask you a question, and then we will see why we all need dreams. The question is … Do you know where you want to go in life?

If we ask a fighter pilot why he becomes a fighter pilot, he will tell you it was his dream to become one. If you ask a school child what he wants to become when he grows up, he will answer you straight away what he wants to become in life. But if you ask some adults what their dreams are, they will ask you, “what is that?” The reason is they stop dreaming or something bad happened to them, and they just gave up on life and stopped living life to the fullest.

I want to make a statement and say that if you have no dreams, the “Universe” doesn’t know where to take you and will leave you just where you are or just put you in somebody else’s dream — maybe to work for that person with a fixed weekly salary that “on average” just pays bills and puts some food on the table. Nothing more, nothing less.

We need to walk out of other people’s dreams and follow our own dream.

The word “Dream” is “The Law of Attraction” in one word. We know what it says: “What you think about you bring about”. I want to replace the word “Think” with the word “Dream”, because a dream adds emotion to the picture you see in your mind, and emotion is the fuel you need to bring your dream into reality.

So dreams help you to set goals, and if you have your goals in place you will know where you want to go in life.

With this said I want to say, follow your dreams and you will not end up in somebody else’s dream, but you will start to live the life you dreamed about when you were a little child. There is a big power behind the phrase “become like a child”, and I think most people don’t realize that power.

What is Your MLM Attitude

I want to talk today about a word that I think is one of the most important words that you need in your MLM vocabulary, and that is the word “ATTITUDE”. Your attitude can make or break your chances for real success, on or offline.

Let’s look at every letter in the word “ATTITUDE “to see why one word can make or brake your business.

A = Action

Without action you will get nowhere. Everything in life needs action, because every action has a reaction. If you reach out to twenty
people every day as I mentioned in my previous post, there will be a reaction that will reflect in your business.

T = Time Management

This is one of the biggest secrets of successful people. If you don’t plan your time, You plan to fail. Some people say, “I don’t have time to work every day on my business,” but they have time to sit in front of the TV.

T = Teamwork

Teamwork is also one of the most important pillars of your MLM business. We know what they say, “Teamwork Develops Power”. Teamwork helps us to learn from one another and provides the support and energy you need when it feels as if nothing is happening in your business.

I= Integrity

We all love to work with people of integrity. How many people have you met online who do not show integrity and who put you and your business down if you do not join there MLM business. It happened to me this past week.

T= Tough

You need to be tough today in business — especially in network marketing. You need to know that you will get more “no’s” than “Yes’s”, and that some of your down line will quit, no matter how excited they were at the beginning.

U = Understand

One thing networkers need to understand is how their business and business plan work. They also need to understand that it takes hard work to become successful, and that it is not an overnight sensation where they will have all the
money in the world without doing anything but talk to only one or two people.

D = Dreams

Dreams are where everything starts, and it is a key word for success. Without dreams you have no plan, and with no plan you are doomed to failure. As Leonardo da Vinci said, “ I first dream my painting, then I paint my dream.”

E – Enjoy

You must enjoy what you do in life and in your business, because if you do not enjoy what you do you will not make a success with your business. Ask any successful person if he enjoyed what he did to become successful, and he will reply to you with a big YES.

I hope that your attitude towards your business is 100%, because that will help you to become the best you can be.

Do you do what it takes?

I spoke this week with my upline leader, and at one point she mentioned something that made me decide to do a blog post about it. So my question to you today is, “Do you do what it takes?”What does that really mean?
So many people join a network marketing business or start a new business opportunity with the hope and dreams to be the next rich man or woman in town, which is all good. The question is, are they willing to do what it takes?

Let’s look at some specific things that you need to do to become the next new rich man or woman in town.

Nr 1: Can you talk to twenty new people per day about your opportunity or share some info about it with your friends on social media? (And I am not talking here about spamming them with links on their walls) but sending him or her a private message on Facebook or Twitter or any other Social media site without any links.

Nr 2: Do you make new friends every day on or offline that you can talk to about your opportunity?

Nr 3: Do you go out of your way to attend training or opportunity meetings or webinars about your business, even if you have to get up at 3am on cold winter mornings? Believe me, this one point alone will take away all excuses from any person on your team who says, “I can’t”.

Nr 4: Do you keep on keeping on, even if no one joins your business in your first four months? That happened with one of my downline, and in his fourth month two people joined his business who promise to be the kind of downline that every networker dreams about! As the saying goes, “If you are at the end of your rope, make a knot and hang in there.”

And then the last point for today — and this will make or break your business. Do you work with your team and set an example they will want to follow? Do you reach out to them every week, even if they do not attend trainings that you or the company have set up for their benefit.
Now, if you are willing to do what it takes just by applying what I have just mentioned, you will be the next rich person in town within the next two to four years. If you just joined or started your own home base business, or even if you are not a newbie in network marketing but are not the richest man or woman in town, just start over and apply what you have just read, and you will also be before you know it!

Why does my MLM Business Fail ?

We can put this question the other way around and ask
why do so many people fail in network marketing?

Even with that, we sit with two questions, for which there
are many answers.

Let’s start with a couple of questions of our own.
May I ask you, do you follow a successful upline, or do you
follow your own head and try to reinvent the wheel? I
think this is the most important reason so many people do
not succeed in network marketing. If your team and
upline sit with a winning recipe, then why do you want to
use your own?

The next question is, are you focused on your primary
business, or do you try to split your focus by doing to many
things at one time . A person at a shooting competition
would never aim at more than one target at a time and
expect to hit the bulls eye. The same with successful
network marketers. They stay focused and know were
they want to go.

Someone once said, “If you’re moving in the right
direction, don’t stop, and you will end up at your
Destination.” Too many people give up too soon. They
may be doing the right things, but if they do not make
money in their first two to four months, they quit and try
the next MLM in “Internet town”, or they say MLM’s do not
work. But they forget that requires a two to three year
plan to get them to financial freedom.

The next problem is people listen to the wrong people,
like family and friends who tell them MLM or network
marketing does not work. My personal philosophy in life
is “don’t try to dish out the rules if you do not play or know
the game.” As I say, don’t lend your ears to the wrong
people. They might just shout in it, and you can become
deaf, and you will not be able to hear what your upline is
saying to you. I would rather follow a person who failed
in the beginning, but stood up again to become successful
in the end, than listen to a person who never tried it at all.

The last answer to the question is another question. How
motivated are you? I love what Zig Ziglar says: “People
often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does
bathing - that’s why we recommend it daily.” If you do not
clean your teeth every day, you will end up at the dentist
office sooner than you think. The same with motivation.
If you do not stay motivated about yourself and your
business, then you will lose interest in it and your business
will fail. If you don’t know how to stay motivated every
day, then it is time to get you some books to read and
audios to listen to from your successful upline, and start to
talk to him every week. That alone will help you a lot.

In summary, I want to say MLM does work, but it is like a
new sports car. The only way that the car will move 200
miles per hour is for you to get behind the steering wheel,
turn the key, put your foot on the gas pedal, hands on the
steering wheel, and drive the car.

Are you looking in the right direction or do you move in the right direction?

I heard this last week during a leadership webinar I was attending: “Are you looking in the right direction?” It made perfect sense to me as I was listening to the webinar leader. We need to know where we want to go in life and, for many of us, where we want to take our MLM business.

After the webinar, as I was pondering what had been said, all of a sudden the next question popped into my mind . . . “Are you looking in the right direction or are you moving into the right detection?

So many people are just looking in the right direction. They have dreams and visions and good plans, but that is where it all ends. If push comes to shove they become lazy and just sit down, only LOOKING at where they want to go.

By only looking in the right direction means that you have your dreams and goals in your mind, almost like sitting with a road map in your hand, knowing where you want to go, but not starting the car. You might have your dream board and mind movie, and so on in place, which is all good; but in the end, you have to apply the missing link. In so many dreams that pass us by, that is the “ACTION” part in the word “ATTRACTION”. With no ACTION there can be no ATTRACTION, and therefore no movement forward toward our dreams and goals.

If we do the first step — the action, the rest will start to fall in place. It is like starting a car. You only need to turn the key and hold onto the steering wheel in order to steer the car, and the engine will do its part. You just need to focus on your destination and how you’re getting there, and the engine will do its part for you.

So Apply Action to your Vision and Dreams and enjoy the movie.
